Following the consistent theme of "paradise on earth," they've built fountains with running water, column arcades and reflecting pools for aesthetic and functional purposes.
Italian Renaissance Fountain
One of the most grandiose and preserved Italian Renaissance gardens is the Villa d'Este at Tivoli. It has a network of fountains that are fed by two aqueducts. In the centre of the garden, a walkway of 100 fountains crosses the hillside connecting the Oval Fountain with the Fountain of Rome. Another lane passes by the Fountain of Dragons and joins the Fountain of Prosperpina with the Fountain of the Owl on a lower level.

Situated to the west of the Palace of Versailles are the gardens of Versailles. They cover nearly 2,000 acres and exhibit perfectly manicured lawns, parterres, sculptures and fountains.
