Taxing Times

Hi ya! I hope you are doing well, and that tax season was kind to you. Speaking of that, we're in some pretty taxing times right now. From the economy, to war, to natural disasters, and winter not wanting to leave, it's tough out there. Almost everyone I talk to has been negatively affected in some way. If you don't know firsthand, I can tell you that running a business right now is certainly not easy.

Yep, it's definitely tough. So what can we do? We all know there are things in life we can change...and things we can't. As individuals, there's not much we can do to change the economy, war, taxes or the weather. These things are what they are. We can, however change how we view them - and thus, how we deal with them.

It boils down to seeing the glass as 'half empty' or 'half full'. We've heard that a million times but in these particular times, it's not easy. Let's be real.  We're adults. We know that things can be tough. We know we need to stay positive. We know that giving up is not an option. But it's still tough.

I give myself pep talks. "You can do it. Just keep going. Stay positive. Think of all the many blessings in your life and the things that are going well. Try not to think about the negative things." I remind myself that God never gives me more than I can handle. I truly believe that, but apparently He has a different view of my limits.

These reminders can be very helpful. But if they don't completely help, I have more suggestions to consider: hugs, kindness and helping others.

We need the human touch, smiles, laughter and the good feelings we have of being with our loved ones. Perhaps adding more of that to our routines will change our perspectives. It's also helpful to step outside ourselves and help others. Focusing on someone else not only feels good, but it provides a break from the stress of our own situations. And when we look to others, we just might find solutions to our own issues.

We are most definitely in taxing times right now, but our perspectives and actions can get us through. We have to believe that, and move forward. With confidence. It will get better. Really. Now go hug someone you love.
